Hay Literary Festival in Kells, Co. Meath

I actually got to my first literary festival (not including the Trim Swift Festival – because I’ve read satire in the Battle of the Books there) the one they call the Glastonbury for the mind.
Sunny Sunday afternoon, nipped into a few popup book shops with my daughter. While she and her Dad caught some GAA on a tv I attended the interview of John Boyne with Sean Rocks of RTE’s Arena. I even got in a question. “How does the author do his research for historical pieces?”

He said, write your first draft then research what you know is wrong.
He only writes about areas /eras he his has previously read about for pleasure. Suggests reading fiction of the era to get the nitty gritty of daily life not, visible in non fiction.
He wrote The House of Special Purpose in St. Petersburg. (lucky man).

Satire for the swift festival in Trim and a bit of Flash.

I have been working on a piece along with fellow Boyne Writers and at our next encounter we shall take a vote and see which three will represent the group in the Battle of The Books on the evening of 4th July in The Trim Castle Hotel.
I must go and add in a few updates.

I have a piece to enter to NFFD ( National Flash Fiction day) can only be emailed on 22nd June to Stinging Fly.
